NIACC golf coach Chris Frenz joins Buccaneer Claire Jordan and her mother Jody as Claire signs to play golf for the college.

Senior Claire Jordan of Blue Earth Area High School recently signed a letter of intent to play golf for the North Iowa Area Community College Trojans.

Jordan, who has been on the BEA golf team since seventh grade, will begin at NIACC in the fall of this year. She plans to study agriculture in college.

Chris Frenz, who has coached at NIACC since 2006, was on hand for the signing.

“It is fun to get local players from northern Iowa and southern Minnesota on our team,” Frenz said.

NIACC has had at least one player qualify for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) championship since Frenz became the head coach. In addition, the team qualified in 2013 and finished 10th in the national championship.

The campus and the programs offered at NIACC were influences on Jordan’s choice of the Mason City college.

“I am excited, it is a new start, I am looking forward to joining the team and meeting new people,” Jordan commented.

First, Jordan will be competing in her final year of high school golf for the Buccaneers. The high school golf season starts with the first practice on March 18.

The first scheduled golf meet is against Maple River and will be played at the Riverside Town and Country Golf Course.
