BEA lands four wrestlers on ALL-BSC
Four Blue Earth Area mat-men were named to the Big South Conference Wrestling All-Conference Team.
The wrestlers honored were Dominic Whitlow, Jaxen Klinkner, Davis Sunken and Ty Peterson.
Whitlow was the lone senior representative from the Bucs. He finished his final high school season with a 32-16 record. He was the Section 2A champion at 195 pounds and ended the year by making his first appearance at the state tournament.
“Dom didn’t start wrestling until a few years ago but he put a lot of time and work into becoming a better wrestler,” BEA head coach Randy Wirtjes commented. “His work paid off with a section championship and a trip to the state tournament this year.”
Klinkner also qualified for the state tournament this year. The junior 138-pounder finished second at the section tournament to earn his first trip to St. Paul. Klinkner compiled a 38-10 record this past season.
“Like I have said before, this was the first year Jaxen got to wrestle at the weight he should compete,” Wirtjes explained. “He had some big wins and was one match away from placing at the state tournament.”
Sunken finished the season with a 34-13 record. His second place finish at the section tournament earned the junior 126-pounds grappler his first trip to St. Paul to compete in the state tournament.
“Davis partners with Ty Peterson in practice and they push each other real hard,” Wirtjes stated. “He came close to making state last year and was able to make it this year.”
Peterson finished the season with a record of 37-9. Wrestling at 113 pounds, the sophomore finished third at the section individual tournament.
“Ty had a nice year last year and started out on varsity right away this year,” Wirtjes said. “He is a quality wrestler and only a tenth grader so we are excited to have him for two more years.”
