Tennis team opens season with win

It was the first meet of the season for the Buccaneer tennis squad. BEA has a young squad with only one senior, Parker Kienitz, on the team. Kienitz teamed up with freshman Nick Frundt to win 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys tennis team finally got their season going, and they certainly got off on the right foot.

The Buccaneers downed the Pipestone Arrows 5-2 in the season opener played on the courts in Blue Earth last Tuesday night.

The Bucs took two wins in singles and swept all three doubles matches for the win.

BEA’s Jack Frundt started things off at No. 1 singles with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Jackson Winter. Both players are juniors.

At No. 2 singles, two other juniors faced off with the Bucs’ Jack Barke falling in a close 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 match against Riley Longstreet.

Freshman Vern Johnson took on junior Dalton Potratz at No. 3 singles and won 6-4, 6-0 for another Buccaneer point.

BEA seventh grader Jaime Johnson took on Cade Baartman, a senior, and lost in a close battle. Johnson won the first set 7-6, but then lost the next two, 6-4, 6-4.

BEA’s only senior, Parker Kienitz, teamed up with freshman Nick Frundt and defeated senior Taylor Millema and junior Noah Everett, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles.

Sophomore James Greer and junior Jonathan Hill downed Cole Paulson and Isaac Stiles, two freshmen, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles.

At No. 3 doubles, two BEA seventh graders, Max Loge and Joe Frundt, took on two freshmen, Jaden Lorang and Owen Minet, and won 6-2, 6-2.

The Bucs are scheduled to take on Worthington on Tuesday, and Waseca on Thursday, both at home on Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.
