BEA falls to St. James in Section quarterfinals

BEA was defeated by St. James in the Section quarterfinals

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys tennis team’s season as a team came to an end last Thursday in Section 1A quarter finals action.

The Bucs fell to the St. James Saints 5-2 in a match played on the St. James courts.

BEA coach Konny Wolff tried to shake the roster up a bit in attempt to give the No. 7 seeded Buccaneers every advantage they could have against the No. 2 seeded Saints.

Coach Wolff put some of her normal singles players down into doubles teams, while having a junior and three seventh graders take over in the four singles slots.

Two of the doubles teams did come out with victories for BEA’s two team points.

Jack Frundt and his brother Nick Frundt teamed up at No. 1 doubles to come out with a close 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 win over the Saints Josue Solorzano and Sawyer Evans.

At No. 3 doubles, Vern Johnson and Jack Barke took a 6-1, 7-5 win over Peyton Hanson and Caleb Rivera.

Parker Kienitz and James Greer took on Luis Almendariz and Anthony Almendaris at No. 2 doubles, but fell by a score of 6-2, 7-5.

In singles action, it was Jonathan Hill taking on Lucas Doll at No. 1 singles and losing 6-0, 6-0.

It was a similar score at No. 2 singles when Jamie Johnson played against Benji Foss. Max Loge also lost 6-0, 6-0, to Trey Witcraft at No. 3 singles.

And, at No. 4 singles, it was the Bucs’ Joe Frundt being defeated by Landon Hoppe, 6-2, 6-0.

The Buccaneers ended up with a season record of 2-8.

While the team season is over, some of the tennis team members will now compete in the Section 1A Individual Tournament which will be Thursday and Friday this week at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

St. Peter 6, BEA 1

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer boys tennis team managed just one win on Friday, May 10, when they took on the St. Peter Saints on the Bucs home courts.

The Buccaneer freshmen duo of Vern Johnson and Nick Frundt took on Saints senior Mikinley Prafke and junior Xavier Schugel at No. 2 doubles. Johnson and Frundt won 6-1, 6-4.

The rest of the squad struggled against the Saints.

At No. 1 singles, junior Jack Frundt fell 6-3, 6-3, to junior Liam Dixon. Senior Parker Kienitz lost 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2 singles to Senior Bailey More.

Buc sophomore James Greer fell 6-3, 6-4, to sophomore Kelson Lund at No. 3 singles, and at No. 4 singles, it was seventh grader Max Loge losing 6-3, 6-2 to eighth grader Marty Anderson.

In doubles action, BEA juniors Jack Barke and Jonathan Hill lost to seniors Matt Pettis and Ken Ringler 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles.

And seventh graders Jamie Johnson and Joe Frundt fell 6-2, 6-1, to a couple of juniors, Daniel Nadeau and Harrison Dean.

The loss dropped the Bucs’ overall record to 2-7.

Fairmont 5, BEA 2

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers got one win in singles and one in doubles against the Fairmont Cardinals on Thursday, May 9. That made the final score 5-2 in favor of the Cards.

Parker Kienitz came up with a three set win at No. 2 singles for the Buccaneers. After losing the first set 6-2, Kienitz came roaring back with 6-4, 6-1, scores in the second and third sets, downing Ameya Komaragiri for the win.

At No. 3 doubles, the Buc duo of Jamie Johnson and Joe Frundt came up with a 6-3, 6-4, win over Fairmont’s Jack Hagen and Ian Fortune.

Jack Frundt lost 6-4, 6-4, to Tyrell Zieske at No. 1 singles. Nick Frundt lost a long three set battle, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, to Blake Haugen at No. 3 singles. Vern Johnson fell 6-2, 6-3, to Thomas Klanderud at No. 3 singles.

James Greer and Jack Barke lost 7-5, 6-1, to Jeb Green and Pete Ortega at No. 1 doubles, and Jonathan Hill and Max Loge fell 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles to Evan Carlson and Aaron Hendricks.
