Girls third, boys fourth at conference

At the Big South Conference in Luverne on May 11, the Blue Earth Area track teams did their best to fight for the top. The Buccaneer boys placed fourth for the day with 116 team points, while the girls placed third for the day with a team total of 93 points.

The girls team did not beat out Luverne, who placed first with 231 points, or Redwood Valley, who placed second with 120 points, but they did overcome the Jackson County Central Huskies, who placed fourth with 77 points, and the Windom Eagles who placed fifth with 72 points.

Eloise Blair and Sophie Keister were the two lone Buccaneers who placed first at the meet. Blair earned a personal record?during the 300 meter low hurdles with a time of 48.68, while Keister earned first place in the high jump with a jump of 4-10 feet.

Blair also placed second during the 100 meter high hurdles with an astounding time of 17.14, while teammate Heidi Herrmann also had a second place win with an 8-0 vault in the pole vault competition.

400 meter dash: Amanda Jacobson (third, 63.92), Kaitlin Johnson (fourth, 66.05), Elizabeth Jacobson (68.90).

200 meter dash: Ta Armstrong (fifth, 28.42), Kate Armon (30.43).

Pole vault: Jazmyn Lunz (7-0).

Shot put: Alyssa Ripley (31-6), Ta Armstrong (28-2), Hayley Jahnke (22-9 1/2).

Discus: Alyssa Ripley (77-9), Marianna Rincon (61-7), Hayley Jahnke (55-3).

Long jump: Hannah Johnson (13-9 1/2), Haley Kalis (12-11).

Triple jump: Hannah Johnson (30-4 1/2), Sydney Eastvold (27-0), Kate Armon (26-11).

Boys results:

Though the boys placed fourth with 116 team points, with Luverne placing third with 132 points, Pipestone placing second with 134, and Redwood Valley placing first also with 134 points, the Bucs still had a number of victories at the BSC meet.

First place winners for the meet included Ben Babcock in the long jump with a 20-7 personal best, and Thomas Lindsey in the pole vault with a 13-6 personal best.
