Two girls still in running at Sections
Two Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls golf team members advanced to the second day of the Section 2AA Golf Meet.
Both Mateja Lane and Maddie Armon had scores on the first day, Wednesday, May 29, to propel them on to the second day which is set for Monday, June 3.
Lane shot an 18-hole total of 93 (45-48) and was in 10th place overall at the end of day one. Her score gave her the second of five individual bids to move on to the second day.
Armon came in with a score of 105 (52-53) on Wednesday, putting her in a tie for 19th overall and the fourth individual qualifying score to go on to day two.
As a team the Buccaneers came in at seventh place with a score of 439. Besides Lane and Armon, the other Buc scores for team total were Olivia Stewart who carded a 117 (60-57) and Liz Beeler who shot a 124 (59-65).
Jordan was in first with a 352, Le Sueur-Henderson and Waseca tied for second with 379 and Albert Lea was fourth with 409. Those four teams all advance to the second day of the Section 2AA both as teams and individuals.
Wednesday’s day one of the girls Section 2AA Meet was on a different day and location than originally scheduled.
It was to have been played on Friday, May 24, at the New Prague Golf Club. But due to rain, it was postponed to last Wednesday. And, due to too much water on the New Prague course, it was moved to The Legacy Golf Club north of Faribault. It is hoped day two on Monday can be back at the New Prague course.
The Buccaneer boys golf team was also scheduled to be played last Tuesday, May 28, again at New Prague. However, due to rainy conditions the day before, the boys Section 2AA first day meet was postponed to Friday, May 31, also at The Legacy course in Faribault.
That competition was completed after the press time for this edition of the Faribault County Register, and details on all the boys and girls section golf action will be in the following week’s edition as well as posted on the Register’s Facebook page.
The boys team’s day two action is also scheduled for this Monday, in New Prague.
