USC’s Heggen earns trip to State Tourney
One golfer from the United South Central boys golf team has punched his ticket to the State Class A Golf Meet.
Andrew Heggen shot a two-day total score of 158 which put in second place overall at the Section 2A Golf Meet. That Section Meet was held at the North Links Golf Course near North Mankato.
The State Meet will be held on June 11 and 12 at Pebble Creek Golf Club near Becker.
As a team the USC Rebels boys had a very good season and ended up with a team record of 57-15-1.
At the Section Meet the Rebels as a team were in fourth place after Day 1. All four of the lowest scoring teams moved on to the Day 2 competition.
At the second day, USC had the second best score of the day, which moved them up from fourth place overall to third place.
“All the Day 2 scores were amazingly close,” Rebel coach Brad Heggen said. “All four teams were within five strokes of one another. This proves that every golf stroke matters at the end of the season.”
The Day 2 scores were Springfield 340, USC 342, Sleepy Eye United 344 and Madelia 345.
The combined Day 1 and Day 2 scores put the teams at Springfield 659, Sleepy Eye United 660, USC 678 and Madelia 680. Springfield will move on as a team to represent Section 2A at the State Golf Meet.
The other Rebel team members at the Section Meet were: Nolan Magnuson, 170 score, 13th overall; Blake Legred, 172 score, 15th overall; Carson Wegner, 178 score, 22nd overall; Adam Stenzel, 185 score, 27th overall; Luke Pederson, 189 score, 28th overall.
