Aaron Wendt drives the ball deep to right-center field in a recent game played at Veterans Field in Blue Earth.

The Blue Earth Pirates defeated the Minnesota Lake Royals 6-4 on Sunday, July 21, in Minnesota Lake, to close out the regular season with a 10-game winning streak.

Logan Jahnke started on the mound for the Pirates and pitched six innings to get the win. He gave up one unearned run in the fifth inning.

Lee Hodges relieved Jahnke in the seventh inning and retired the first six batters he faced.

However, two infield errors led to three unearned runs in the ninth inning before the Royals were retired to end the game.

Blue Earth scored one run in the second, three in the fifth and added two more in the top of the eighth to complete their scoring.

Brandyn Olsen had two doubles and two RBIs. Logan Jahnke also had two RBIs.

Region tournament play began the weekend of July 27-28. The Pirates are in an 18-team region tournament consisting of teams from the 13-60 League and the River Valley League. The top three teams out of this tournament will advance to the state tournament.

The Pirates played host to Wells on Sunday, July 28, at 6 p.m. The results of that contest will be in next week’s edition of The Faribault County Register.

They will host another game on Saturday, Aug. 3, at a time and against an opponent to be determined.
