Bucs make it six straight

The BEA tennis team continues to find success so far this season. Here, Macie Stevermer comes to the net to score a point against her Maple River opponent.

The Class AA No. 6 ranked Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls kept their perfect winning record intact for the 2019 season by downing the Maple River Eagles 6-1 in Blue Earth last Thursday afternoon.

Two of the matches went to tie breakers, with the Bucs winning one of those, and losing one.

It was Ta Armstrong involved in a long battle at No. 1 singles, and coming out with a hard fought win. She defeated Vanessa Barkoski 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 7-5.

Macie Stevermer’s match at No. 2 singles was as short as Armstrong’s was long. Stevermer quickly dispatched Lauren Maas 6-0, 6-0.

Arika Howard downed Leah Proehl almost as quickly, winning 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles.

Marissa Benz won by the same 6-1, 6-0, score over Kala Berg at the No. 4 singles spot.

The Buccaneers’ No. 1 doubles team of McKenna Dutton and Cali Beyer were involved with the other long battle of the afternoon, but unfortunately could not pull out the win, despite winning the first set 6-1. The Buc duo lost to Abby Bruegger and Olivia Pfeffer by scores of 1-6, 6-0, 6-6 (3-7).

At No. 2 doubles, Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris took a 6-4, 6-4, victory over Ella Sohre and Sophie Christian.

Addison Armstrong and Kylie Rosenau downed Isabella Nelson and Kelsey Jaeger by a set scores of 6-4, 6-3.

Next up for the Bucs are three matches this week. On Tuesday, Sept. 3, they host Luverne, then travel to Fairmont on Thursday and Tri-City United on Saturday.

BEA 7, Pipestone Area 0

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls tennis team continued to roll along as they notched their fifth straight win of the season by shutting out Pipestone Area 7-0.

The Bucs cruised to victory with none of the seven matches even close at the meet held last Tuesday in Pipestone.

Ta Armstrong started things off with a 6-0, 6-4, win over Paige Ahrendt at No. 1 singles. At No. 2 singles it was Macie Stevermer who defeated Mataya Pouty by a score of 6-2, 6-0.

The Bucs’ Arika Howard continued her winning ways at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-1, win over Olivia Lapthion. And Marissa Benz took a 6-3, 6-0, victory over Hannah Minet at No. 4 singles.

The Buccaneer duo of McKenna Dutton and Cali Beyer teamed up for a 6-2, 6-2, defeat of Mackenzie Manderschied and Skyler Mendro at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 2 doubles it was Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris taking a 6-3, 6-2, win over Toryn Woelber and Emma Stahl.

Addison Armstrong and Kylie Rosenau completed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1, victory over Jenna Boeke and Brelle Kulm at No. 3 doubles.

BEA 6, LSH 1

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls tennis team continued their winning ways with a 6-1 victory over the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants on Friday, Aug. 23, in Le Sueur.

The Bucs won all three doubles matches and added three more singles wins for the victory. It put BEA’s season record at 4-0.

In doubles action, McKenna Dutton and Cali Beyer teamed up for a 6-4, 6-2, win over Emma Seaver and Keely Olness at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 2 doubles, it was Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris winning 6-2, 7-5, over Anna Pavlov and Darbi Dunning.

Addison Armstrong and Kylie Rosenau took on Mia Schwarz and Morgan Jones at No. 3 doubles and getting a 6-2, 6-3, victory.

At No. 1 singles, Ta Armstrong suffered a 6-2, 6-1, loss to Greta Nesbit.

Macie Stevermer took a 6-0, 7-5, win over Gretchen Dwyer at No. 2 singles. It was Arika Howard defeating Chloe Brandt 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.

Buccaneer Marissa Benz notched a 6-3, 6-1, win over Makenna Reinhardt at No. 4 singles.
