Bucs remain undefeated in tennis
The Class A No. 6-ranked Blue Earth Area girls tennis team traveled to Fairmont to take on the Cardinals in a Big South Conference contest and came home with a hard-fought 5-2 victory.
The Bucs won three of the four singles matches. Macie Stevermer pocketed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Brianna Joseph at No. 2 singles.
Arika Howard did not lose a game while defeating Lauren Green 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
The No. 4 singles match saw Marissa Benz of BEA claiming a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bergen Senf of Fairmont.
The No. 1 doubles team of McKenna Dutton and Britt Howard dropped the first set 7-6 before winning the second set 7-6 in a tiebreaker (9-7). The closed out the match with a 6-0 win in the third set.
Addison Armstrong and Kylie Rosenau defeated their opponents at No. 3 doubles for the Buc’s final win. Armstrong and Rosenau lost the first set 6-3 but won the next two sets 6-1, 6-4.
Ta Armstrong of the Bucs lost a three-set match to Claire Nemmers. Nemmers won the opening set 7-5 but Armstrong claimed the second set 6-3. They played a supertiebreaker for the third set which Nemmers won 18-16.
The No. 2 doubles team of Cali Beyer and Lyndsey Borris lost in straight sets. Emily Hagen and Ellie Hernes of the Cardinals prevailed 7-5, 6-2.
BEA 6, Luverne 1
Put another one in the “W” column for the Blue Earth Area Buccaneer girls tennis team.
The Bucs took down the Luverne Cardinals on the courts in Blue Earth last Tuesday afternoon, and notched a 6-1 victory.
BEA’s No. 1 and No. 2 singles players, Ta Armstrong and Macie Stevermer notched nearly identical quick victories to get things started.
Armstrong dispatched Roz Oye at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, while Stevermer downed Elise Jarchow 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.
Arika Howard continued her winning ways with a 6-0, 6-3, win over Aiuslie Robinson at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles Marissa Benz was in a battle royale against Liz Kelm, but unfortunately the Buccaneer could not pull out the win.
Benz lost the first set in a close 7-5 battle, then won the second set 6-4. She fell 6-4 in the third set.
In doubles action, McKenna Dutton and Britt Howard teamed up to take a 6-4, 6-0, win at No. 1 doubles over Brynn Thier and Mela Jarchow.
At No. 2 doubles the Buc duo of Cali Beyer and Lyndsey Borris defeated Lauren Versteeg and Solveig Tofteland, 6-0, 7-6 (7-4).
Addison Armstrong and Kylie Rosenau took on Jacey Smith and Olivia Wieneke and won 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.
The win puts the Class AA No. 6 ranked Bucs’ record at 7-0 for the season.
