In addition to the BEA girls team qualifying for State, the Bucs also had a doubles team earn a trip to the State Tournament. After winning the Section 3A Doubles championship crown, the Buccaneer duo of Ta Armstrong and Arika Howard earned a trip to the State Individual Tennis Meet.

Armstrong and Howard started their State Meet facing off against Kloe Lund and Isabela Nelson, of Thief River Falls, last Thursday morning, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m.

The Buc juniors lost to the two seniors by scores of 6-1, 7-6 (1).

The loss dropped them into the consolation championship round.

They faced two juniors, Anna Lundgren and Jaci Smith, of Virginia, in a 2 p.m. match Thursday afternoon and won. The scores were 6-1, 6-2.

Next up for the Bucs was a semi-finals match against either the doubles team from St. James or Staples-Motely.

That match was at 8 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, past this week’s deadline for the Register. If Armstrong and Howard win, they would play for the consolation crown at 11:30 a.m. on the same day, Friday.
