Saints down Bucs in playoff action

Miya Gustafson goes low to return a serve from a game earlier this season. BEA traveled to St. Peter on Thursday, Oct. 24 to take on the Saints in the first round of the Section 2AA playoffs. The Bucs were defeated which ended their season.

The Blue Earth Area volleyball knew they faced a tough challenge when they opened the Section 2AA South Sub-Section playoffs against the No. 1-seeded St. Peter Saints on Thursday night, Oct. 24.

The Bucs, the No. 8-seed, put up a fight but St. Peter won the match in three games. The scores were 25-12, 25-19 and 25-7.

Senior Liz Beeler led the team in set assists with 12. Beeler was 6-for-6 from the service line and scored two points.

Alicia Machacek and Heidi Herrmann each had five kills. Herrmann added three ace blocks while Machacek recorded two ace blocks for the Bucs.

Maci Frommie and Brita Hougen both had two kills. Frommie added two ace blocks and Hougen had seven digs.

Leading the defense was Eloise Blair with 15 digs.

Miya Gustafson led the team with five points on 9-of-10 serving. Hougen, Natalie Huse and Emma Langager all went 6-for-6 from the service line. Hougen and Langager were both credited with two points while Huse tallie one point.

With the loss, the season comes to an end for the young BEA squad. It was the final high school volleyball game for three seniors, Beeler, Huse and Herrmann.

LSH 3, BEA 0

In their final game before the post-season playoffs, the Blue Earth Area Bucs volleyball team traveled north to take on the LeSueur-Henderson Giants on Monday, Oct. 21.

The Giants, who received the No. 2-seed in the Class 2AA South Sub-Section, defeated the Bucs in consecutive games 25-5, 25-6, 25-11.

Eloise Blair led the defense with 10 digs followed by Gabby Haaland with five and Brita Hougen with four.

Liz Beeler led the Bucs with eight set assists.

Alicia Machacek had three kills. Hougen, Heidi Herrmann and Miya Gustafson recorded two kills each.

Gustafson was 4-for-5 at the service line for one point.
