BEA boys are victorious on the road
Three Blue Earth Area players scored in double figures to lead the visiting Buccaneers to an 80-50 victory over the New Ulm Eagles.
The Buc defense had nine steals and forced New Ulm to commit 22 turnovers which BEA converted to 28 points.
Braden Gudahl got the Bucs on the board first with a three-pointer but the Eagles worked the ball inside for two buckets and a 4-3 lead.
A baseline drive by Gudahl put BEA in the lead for good at 5-4. Austin Thielfoldt drained two consecutive shots from behind the arc to increase the Bucs’ lead to 11-4.
The score was 17-10 in favor to the Bucs when Cameron Anderson scored 10 consecutive points.
Anderson’s first bucket came when he caught an inbounds pass and put it in the hoop. Next, Thielfoldt drove the baseline and found Anderson breaking down the lane for an easy layup.
Anderson then drained two long-range threes but New Ulm was keeping pace and BEA’s lead now stood at 27-20.
In fact, New Ulm cut the lead to five points at 27-22. However, the Bucs outscored the Eagles 13-3 during the last five minutes of the first half to take a 40-25 lead at the end of the opening stanza.
The Bucs continued to pull away in the second half of the game. The Maroon and Gold outscored the Eagles by the same 40-25 margin as they did in the first half.
BEA shot 61.5 percent from the field for the evening, including 11 of 24 from three-point range. The Bucs made all five of their free throws for the night.
Anderson finished the night with 23 points to lead the Bucs. Gudahl and Thielfoldt both had 13 and Zach Herrmann had nine.
Thielfoldt led the team with eight rebounds. Anderson and Thielfoldt each had three steals. With the win BEA improved its record to 2-3.
