Bucs start season with two wins

Blue Earth Area made it two in a row with a 7-0 victory over the Waseca Bluejays on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Ta Armstrong only lost one game in her 6-1, 6-0 win over Cece Huttemier in the No. 1 singles match.
At No. 2 singles, BEA’s Marissa Benz lost the first set to Sarah Robbins 6-1. Benz then rallied to win the final two sets 6-1, 10-8, to take the match.
Addison Armstrong defeated Hannah Berndt at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0.
Arika Howard did not lose a game in her 6-0, 6-0, triumph over Brooke Hayes in the No. 4 singles match.

Téa Armstrong smashes a forehand return in her match against New Ulm. The Blue Earth Area Bucs got off to a strong start in their first week of action with a home win over New Ulm before going on the road to defeat Waseca 7-0.
McKenna Dutton and Kylie Rosenau teamed up to win their No. 1 doubles match over Emily Farley and Tanika Johnson 6-1, 6-3.
Seniors Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris had another strong showing in the No. 2 doubles match. The duo was matched against Niclola DeJager and Miranda Brak of Waseca and came away with a 6-0, 6-1, win.
Senior Cali Beyer and freshman Olivia Dutton made it a clean sweep for the Buccaneers with a victory at No. 3 doubles. The pair downed Grace Lapides and Jewel Paulson 6-2, 6-1.
BEA 7, New Ulm 0
The Blue Earth Area girls tennis team had their first meet on Tuesday, Aug. 25, when they hosted the New Ulm Eagles at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth.
The defending Section 3A champion Buccaneers did not lose a set to the Eagles on their way to a 7-0 victory.
It was the first high school athletic event for BEA since the boys basketball team finished their season early on March 9.
Ta Armstrong did not lose a game in her 6-0, 6-0, victory in the No. 1 singles match against Abby Hietala of New Ulm.
Marissa Benz, playing at No. 2 singles for the Bucs, pocketed a 6-0, 6-1, win over Malia Emerson.
At No. 3 singles, Addison Armstrong produced a 6-0, 6-0, shut out against Lydia King.
Arika Howard started slow at No. 4 singles but came back to win the first set 6-3, over Emily Guttisberg. The senior went on to win the second set 6-0.
McKenna Dutton and Kylie Rosenau teamed up to down Maddie O’Connor and MaKenna Simpson 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, Buccaneers Britt Howard and Lyndsey Borris joined forces for a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Calyn Glaser and Alex Vigil.
BEA’s No. 3 doubles team of Cali Beyer and Olivia Dutton won the final match of the day by shutting out Claire Brown and Marissa Todesco of New Ulm 6-0, 6-0.
The Bucs host Waseca at Schroeder Courts on Monday, Aug. 31, at 4:30 p.m.
