Rebels fall to top-seeded Saints

The United South Central Rebels girls tennis season came to an abrupt end last Thursday when they lost to the St. James Saints in Section 3A semifinal play.
The No. 5 seeded Rebels fell 7-0 to the No. 1 seeded Saints. Earlier in the week the Rebels had defeated the No. 4 seeded Pipestone Arrows for the right to advance and take on the Saints.
The closest match of the day was at No. 3 doubles, with USC’s Brooklyn Yokiel and Hannah Olson going up against Mika Wessels and Emma Anderson.
In a hard fought first set, the Rebel duo lost 7-5, and then fell 6-2 in the second set.
At No. 1 doubles, Macy Zebro and Maya Zebro lost 6-1, 6-4 to Gabriella Trapero and Sailor Mohlenbrock. Olivia Schwartz and Lauren Zebro were defeated by Sofia Solorzano and Allison Bluedorn, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Delaney Weber lost 6-3, 6-0 to Ellie Becker at No. 1 singles.
At No. 2 singles, Alyson Swanson lost 6-1, 6-0, to Jaelyn Haler. Kelsie Chapman fell 6-0, 6-0, to Mya Hanson at No. 3 singles.
Elizabeth Romano of USC lost to Eva Romsdahl of St. James, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles.
Despite the loss the Rebels had a great season, says coach Andre Rueda.
USC 5, Pipestone 2
The United South Central Rebel girls tennis team started their Section 3A Tournament action in high fashion last Tuesday night.
The No. 5-seeded Rebels traveled to Pipestone to take on the No. 4 seeded Arrows, and came back home with a 5-2 victory.
USC now advances to take on the No. 1 seeded St. James Saints on Thursday.
The Rebels swept the three doubles matches and won two of four singles matches on their way to the win in Pipestone.
In doubles action Macy Zebro and Mayo Zebro teamed up at No. 1 doubles to take a three set win, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0, over MacKenzie Manderscheid and Skylar Mendro.
No. 2 doubles duo of Olivia Schwartz and Lauren Zebro took on Jenna Boeke and Emma Czech and won 7-5, 6-2.
It was Rebels Brooklyn Yokiel and Hanna Olson who won 7-5, 6-3, over Sydnee Hubner and Kennedy Manderscheid at No. 3 doubles.
USC’s Delaney Weber defeated Olivia Lapthorn, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
Alyson Swanson lost 6-1, 7-5, at No. 2 singles to Toryn Woelber.
Kelsie Chapman scored a win for USC with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Emma Stahl at No. 3 singles.
Elizabeth Romano lost a 6-2, 6-2, No. 4 singles match to Brielle Kulm.
