Rebels defeat Luverne in tennis

The United South Central Rebels girls tennis team used two wins in singles competition and two more in doubles to take a tight 4-3 victory over the Luverne Cardinals and claim third place in Section 3A Tournament competition.

The match was played on Monday, Oct. 12, in Luverne.

Delaney Weber got things started for the Rebels with a 6-2, 6-0, victory over Roz Oye at No. 1 singles.

Alyson Swanson got USC’s other singles win at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Elise Jarchow.

At No. 3 singles, Kelsie Chapman lost 6-2, 6-4, to Ainslie Robinson, and Elizabeth Romano lost a hard-fought three set match, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, to Mia Wenzel at No. 4 singles.

The Rebels’ Maya Zebro and Macy Zebro teamed up at No. 1 doubles to down Solveig Tofteland and Lauren Ver Steeg, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

At No. 2 doubles, Lauren Zebro and Olivia Schwartz combined for a 7-5, 6-3 win over Olivia Wieneke and Jacey Smith for USC’s fourth team point.

Brooklyn Yokiel and Hannah Olson put up a fight but lost 6-2, 7-6 (1), to Brynn Their and Liz Kelm, at No. 3 doubles.
