Blue Earth Area senior Cameron Anderson has been announced as a finalist for the Mr. Football Award which is presented by the Minnesota Football Coaches Association to recognize the top senior player in the state.
The other finalists are Shea Albrecht, Orono; Joe Alt, Totino-Grace; Trey Feeney, Moorhead; Nick Flaskamp, Minneapolis Southwest; Marcus Hansen, Waseca; Eli Mau, Chanhassen; Jake Ratzlaff, Rosemount; Garrison Solliday, St. Thomas Academy; and Adam Tonsfeldt, Barnseville.
Anderson is a two-time South Central White District All-District player who also was named Player of the Year for the district in 2020.
In seven games this year the fleet-footed Anderson led the team with 27 receptions for 572 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed 11 times for 151 yards and three TDs in addition to returning two punts and one kickoff for TDs.
Anderson used his pass-catching ability on defense to tally a team-best six interceptions during his final year of high school football.
“I am very happy for him. He is very deserving of this recognition,” BEA head football coach Randy Kuechenmeister said. “Good things happen when the ball is in his hands. It is also a good reflection on his teammates and those around him.”
Anderson becomes the third BEA player nominated for the Mr. Football Award. Logan Becker (2007) and Jonah Pirsig (2011) were previously honored as finalists.
The coaches association said the award will be presented at a later date.
The Academic All-State award winners have also been released.
Gavin Storbeck was named the Academic All-State recipient from BEA. Storbeck, a senior, has led the team as the starting quarterback for the past two seasons.
The BEA football team was honored with an Academic All-State Silver Award based on the grade point average (GPA) of the entire roster. The Silver Award is given to teams with a GPA of 3-3.25.
