Bucs dominate the Eagles 63-12
Began year with wins over Pipestone and Waseca in triangular meet

BEA’s Cooper Peterson is in control against Maple River’s Wyatt Walters in the 106-pound match. Peterson would go on to pin Walters and BEA went on to claim a 63-12 victory over the Eagles to improve to 3-0.
Blue Earth Area improved their record to 3-0 on the wrestling mat with a 63-12 triumph over the host Maple River Eagles on Thursday, Jan. 21.
“I think we saw some improvement in our guys even from our first meet,” assistant coach Dave Pfaffinger said. “They are coming out and wrestling hard.”
Cooper Peterson pinned Wyatt Walters in 3:15 at 106 pounds to give Blue Earth Area a 6-0 lead.
The Bucs upped their lead to 18-0 when Caleb Langager at 113 pounds and Carson Sturtz at 120 also won by falls.
Angel Martinez of BEA received a forfeit at 126 pounds to put the Bucs up 24-0.
Boden Simon, the No. 5-ranked wrestler at 132 pounds, got Maple River on the board with a first-period pin over BEA’s Brody Anderson.
Ty Peterson needed just 1:34 to pin Isaac Sowers of the Eagles to make the score 30-6 in favor of the Bucs.
Maple River got their final points of the meet in the 145-pound match when Ethan Evenson scored a first period pin over Gabe Smith.
BEA’s Parker Meyers won by a second period fall at 152 pounds.
The next two matches were decided by decisions with Kean Hicks defeating Laken Ivie 8-2 at 160 pounds and Max Ehrich downing Cooper Ochsendorf 6-3 at 170.
Nick Frank scored a third period pin over Brady Walters at 182 pounds followed by Adam Schavey pinning Tobias Conover in 1:02 at 195 pounds.
Luke Mertens was victorious at 220 pounds with an 8-4 decision over Thayne Decker.
The Bucs’ final win of the night came on a Kale Frank pin over Dizel Butler at 285 pounds.
BEA Triangular
The Class A No. 10-ranked Bucs won both of their matches against Big South Conference foes Pipestone Area and Waseca in a triangular meet held in Blue Earth on Jan. 19. The Bucs defeated the Arrows 60-24 and Waseca 54-27.
Waseca downed Pipestone Area 55-21 in the other match.

Brayden Burmeister of the Arrows pinned the Bucs’ Cooper Peterson in the second period of the 106-pound match to give Pipestone Area a 6-0 lead.
BEA’s Caleb Langager received a forfeit at 113 pounds to tie the team score at 6-6.
The Arrow’s JJ Martens scored the first of three consecutive pins over the Bucs to put Pipestone on top 24-6.
Martens pinned Carson Sturtz at 120 pounds. Davis Budden scored a fall over Angel Martinez at 126 pounds and Nate Bobendrier put Brody Anderson’s back to the mat at 132 pounds.
It would be the last points the Arrows would score. The Bucs won the last nine matches beginning with Ty Peterson’s pin of Karter Wixon 29 seconds into the second period of their 138-pound match. Peterson began the night ranked No. 8 in the 132-pound weight bracket.
Parker Meyers at 145 pounds and Gabe Smith at 152 both received forfeits which tied the score at 24-24.
Kean Hicks continued the string of BEA victories with a pin over Gavin Olson at 160 pounds to give the Bucs their first lead of the contest.
Max Ehrich recorded a fall over Jackson Melcher at 170 pounds and Nick Frank needed only 36 seconds to pin Allen Tubbs in the 182-pound match.
The final three victories came when Adam Schavey and Logan Johnson received forfeits at 195 and 220 pounds, respectively, followed by Luke Mertens pinning Jayden Hoss in the 285-pound match.
BEA 54, Waseca 27
The Bucs won their second meet of the night by downing the Waseca Bluejays 54-27.
The Bluejays held a 27-18 lead after the first eight matches but the Bucs closed out the contest with a forfeit followed by five consecutive pins to gain the victory.
John Feeley of Waseca needed overtime to down Cooper Peterson at 106 pounds. Feeley won by a pin to give the visitors a 6-0 lead.
Caleb Langager’s first-period pin of Elijah Biehn at 113 pounds tied the score at 6-6.
Mason Gehloff of the Jays pinned Carson Sturtz at 120 pounds to stake Waseca to a 12-6 lead.
BEA’s Angel Martinez received a forfeit in the 126-pound match to tie the score at 12-12.
Luke Osweiler of Waseca recorded a first-period fall over Brody Anderson to give the Bluejays an 18-12 lead, but Ty Peterson’s pin of Oliver O’Brien knotted the score at 18-18.
The Bluejays went on top 21-18 when Christian Rodriguez earned a 5-2 decision over Parker Meyers at 145 pounds.
Waseca extended their lead to 27-18 with a second-period fall by Brandon Lopez-Huerta over Gabe Smith at 152 pounds.
BEA’s Kean Hicks received a forfeit at 160 pounds to narrow Waseca’s lead to three points at 27-24.
BEA’s Max Ehrich, ranked No. 2 at 170 pounds, put the Maroon and Gold on top for good with a first-period pin of Carter Ellis. Ehrich’s triumph gave the Bucs a 30-27 lead.
Nick Frank, the No. 8-ranked wrestler at 195 pounds, wrestled at 182 pounds and scored a fall in the second period of his match against Payton Garza.
The last three matches were all won by BEA with first-period pins.
Adam Schavey defeated River Schmidt at 195 pounds, Logan Johnson downed Daniel Kuhns at 220 pounds and Luke Mertens was victorious over Jenaro Delgado at 285 pounds.
