Shooting woes trouble Rebel girls
Cold shooting woes sunk the United South Central Rebels when they faced off against the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers last Tuesday night, Jan. 26.
The Rebel girls shot just 17 percent from the floor, while the Panthers were 26 percent from 2-point range and 34 percent from the 3-point arc.
And while the Rebels did better from the free throw line, hitting 56 percent, the Panthers were at 75 percent.
NRHEG scored 36 points in the first half, and 32 in the second, for 68 points. The Rebels scored 21 points, 11 in the first half, 10 in the second.
Maya Zebro led the team with six points coming off two 3-pointers. She also had three rebounds.
Dani Kirkeide had four points, and Izzy O’Rourke, Hannah Meyer and Josie Schumann each had three points. O’Rourke led the team with five rebounds and Meyer and Schumann each had four rebounds.
Macy Zebro had two points and three rebounds, and Lexi Johnson had three rebounds and a steal.
Next up for the Rebels was a game against Hayfield last Friday night, Jan. 29. Details will be in the next Faribault County Register.
Blooming Prairie 64, USC 35
The United South Central Rebels girls basketball team lost the game against the Blooming Prairie Blossoms on Friday, Jan. 22, by a score of 64-35.
The Rebels were outscored 37-14 in the first half, but played a closer second half, being outscored 27-21.
The Blossoms shot 48 percent from two-point range and 33 percent from both the three-point range and from the free-throw line.
The Rebels shot 29 percent from two-point range, 30 percent of their three-pointers and 22 percent from the charity stripe.
As a team USC made 12 of their 42 tries from two-point range, three of 10 from beyond the arc and were two of nine from the free-throw line.
Hannah Olson was the leading scorer for the Rebels with 10 points. Maya Zebro had eight points and Dani Kirkeide added five points for USC.
Zebro and Kirkeide and Izzy O’Rourke all had three rebounds in the game.
Josie Schumann had four points, and led the team in rebounds with seven, assists with two and blocked shots with three. Leah Winch also had four points and three rebounds.
O’Rourke and Lexi Johnson each had two points for the Rebels.
