USC wrestlers go 1-3 for the week

Sonnek and Elvebak continue to pile up the wins this season

The United South Central Rebel wrestling team won one and lost one when they traveled to Le Sueur-Henderson for a triangular meet on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

The Rebels defeated the host Giants of LS-H by a score of 44-30, but then fell 63-6 to a powerful Tri-City United Titans team.

In the first match Kolt Bullerman of the Rebels got things started at 106 pounds with a 17-0 technical fall. Isaiah Gonzalez had a forfeit at 113 and the Rebels had an early 11-0 lead.

After having to forfeit at 120, the Rebels peeled off three straight wins with Bryce Sonnek winning with a pin at 126, Byron Getchell winning with a forfeit and Ethan Elvebak taking a 9-6 decision at 138.

The Rebels forfeited at 145, but Konner Harpestad won by a pin at 152 and so did Micah Hamson at 160.

USC lost the next two matches but then Matt Beyer won by forfeit at 195. There was a double forfeit at 220 and the Rebels forfeited at 285, making the final score 44-30 in favor of USC.

In the other match for the Rebel wrestlers, Sonnek took a 7-1 decision at 126 pounds and Elvebak took a 6-4 decision at 138 to give USC its six points in the match against Tri-City United, which ended with a score of 63-6.

Pine Island Triangular

The Rebel wrestlers participated in a triangular meet on Saturday, Jan. 30. USC fell 48-34 to the host Pine Island Panthers team, and then lost 51-12 against the Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson Cardinals.

Against Pine Island, the Rebels fell behind 24-0 and then came back and tied it at 24-24. USC got a pin by Bryce Sonnek at 126, and a pin by Byron Getchell at 132, followed with a forfeit by Ethan Elvebak.

After USC trailed 24-18, the Rebels came back to take the lead 28-24 after a forfeit win for Konnor Harpestad at 152 pounds and a 14-6 major decision win by Micah Hamson at 160.

Unfortunately, the Rebels only other score came with a pin by Matt Beyer at 195 pounds, and the Rebels lost 48-34.

In the other match against the L-A/R-P Cardinals, the Rebels got four victories by 3-point decisions for their 12 points versus 51 points for the Cards.

Kolt Bullerman took a 4-0 decision at 106 pounds to start off the match.

Bryce Sonnek won a close 3-2 victory at 126 pounds, Ethan Elvebak won 7-1 at 138 and Konnor Harpestad also won by a 7-1 score at 160.
