Blue Earth Area’s Adam Schavey starts his slide to home plate in the Bucs’ recent game against Jackson County Central. Schavey was safe at home and the Maroon and Gold defeated the Huskies 22-10. The Bucs have a record of 5-1 through six games this season.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers played host to the Redwood Valley Cardinals for a doubleheader on April 20, a day when the weather seemed more suitable for a November football playoff game.

The Cardinals won the first game before the Bucs rallied to win the second game.

The flag located behind center field was blowing straight to the east when the first game got underway. The temperatures were in the high 40s making it hard for players and fans alike to get comfortable.

Both teams made multiple errors and the Cardinals took an early lead only to have the Bucs battle back and make it a close game.

BEA had the tieing run on third base and the winning run on second base in the bottom of the seventh inning when RWV recorded the final out to end the game.

Anders Fering went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Kean Hicks was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Keegan O’Brien was 1-for-2 and Parker Meyers was 1-for-3. O’Brien and Meyers each scored two runs.

“It was cold. I know I was cold,” BEA mentor Todd Schmidtke said. “I’m sure the weather affected the play of both teams to some degree, but give the guys credit because they played hard to the very end.”

Six different BEA batters had a multiple hit game.

Anders Fering, Luke Mertens and Ryan Madetzke each had three hits. Keegan O’Brien, Logan O’Hara and Hicks each collected two hits.

Fering had four RBIs, Madetzke and Hicks each drove in three runs. Mertens, O’Brien, and O’Hara each tallied two RBIs.
