Boys fall to Luverne in tennis opener
The Blue Earth Area boys tennis team opened their season with a home meet on Thursday, April 15, against the Luverne Cardinals.
The two teams split the four singles matches but Luverne swept the doubles matches to go home with a 5-2 victory.
James Greer, playing at No. 3-singles, got one for the Bucs with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Chance Tunnissen.
BEA’s other win was by Jamie Johnson in the No. 4-singles match. The freshman downed Kyle Ferguson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
The Cardinal’s Pierce Cunningham defeated Vern Johnson of the Bucs 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1-singles match.
Griffin Jarchow gave Luverne a win at No. 2-singles with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Nick Frundt.
The No. 1-doubles match went to Luvene in straight sets. Blake Frahm and Ben Jarchow defeated BEA’s Joe Frundt and Seth Stevermer 6-3, 6-4.
Ethan Nath and Logan Ommen of the Cardinals won the match at No. 2 doubles over BEA’s Calvin Farrow and Seth Mathews 7-5, 6-2.
In the No. 3-doubles match, Luverne’s Jayson Rops and John Miller defeated Jerry Passe and Brady Lorenz 6-0, 6-3.
