Boys tennis team falls to New Ulm

The Blue Earth Area boys tennis team had their four-game winning streak broken on Thursday, April 29, when they fell to the New Ulm Eagles 6-1, at New Ulm.

Jamie Johnson was the lone Buc to earn a victory. Johnson won the No. 4 singles match 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

At No. 1 singles, New Ulm’s Isaac Blumhoefer downed Vern Johnson in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Nick Frundt of the Bucs also lost in straight sets in the No. 2 singles match. Max Gieseke downed Frundt 6-4 in the first set before taking the second set 6-0.

BEA’s James Greer and the Eagles’ Joey Gag battled for three sets in the No. 3 singles match.

Gag took the first set 6-3. Greer bounced back and won the second set 6-2 to force a third set. It was close but in the end Gag prevailed and won the deciding set 7-5 to win the match.

New Ulm’s No. 1 doubles team of Nathaniel Janssen and Leo Waloch won in two sets, 6-2, 7-6, over Joe Frundt and Devin Haase of BEA.

Cody Gilman and Tate Trullinger of the Eagles defeated the Bucs’ Jerry Passe and Seth Stevermer 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

The No. 3 doubles match needed three sets to determine the winner. New Ulm’s Isaac Davis and Dylen Carreon won the opening set 7-5 over John Lappe and Calvin Farrow of the Bucs. Lappe and Farrow fought tough and evened the match by winning the second set 6-3. Davis and Carreon won the third set 10-5 in a super tiebreaker to take the match.
