Baseball team goes 2-1 for the week

Rebels down JWP and FBA before being defeated by the Hayfield Vikings

The United South Central boys baseball team lost to the Hayfield Vikings last Tuesday, May 11. The final score was 15-2.

The Vikings scored four runs in the second inning, added one in the fifth, then had six in the sixth and four more in the seventh.

The Rebels had one run in the third and another in the fourth. The Rebels had just two hits.

Bryce Sonnek was 2 for 3 with an RBI. One of the hits was a double. Colten Quade had the other RBI. Runs were scored by Nick Bushlack and Jackson Spirrizzi.

Blake Schroeder pitched five innings, gave up six runs on four hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Quade pitched one inning, gave up eight runs on five hits. Sonnek pitched one inning and gave up one run on two hits.

USC 12, FBA 7

The United South Central Rebels defeated the Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals 12-7 on Saturday, May 8.

FBA scored two runs in the first inning, but USC came back with three runs in the second to take the lead. The Cards tied it up 3-3 in the bottom of the second.

USC scored two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to lead 8-3. FBA got another run in the bottom of the fifth, then scored three in the bottom of the sixth.

However, the Rebels responded with a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to seal the win.

The Rebels had 13 hits to the Cards eight. Zale Bushlack led the way for USC, going 4 for 4 with two RBI. Konnor Harpestad was also 2 for 3 with three RBI, Colten Quade was 2 for 3 and one RBI and Jackson Spirrizzi was 2 for 4 and one RBI.

Ian Crawford pitched for 5 1/3 innings and gave up seven runs on seven hits, had two walks and six strikeouts. Bryce Sonnek pitched 1 2/3 inning and gave up no runs, one hit and struck out one batter.

USC 18, JWP 5

The United South Central Rebels baseball team exploded for nine runs in the first inning and six more in the second when they played the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs on Friday, May 7.

USC won the game 18-5. The Rebels added three insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after the Bulldogs scored two in the first and three in the third.

Mason Stevermer led the way for the Rebels at the plate, going 2 for 3 and had two RBI. Bryce Sonnek was 2 for 2, including a triple, and had two RBI. Ian Crawford was also 2 for 2, one of which was a double, and had three RBI. Jackson Spirrizzi was also 2 for 2 and had one RBI. Konnor Harpestad had one hit and two RBI.

Blake Schroeder pitched three innings, gave up five runs on six hits, walked three and struck out five.

Sonnek came on in relief for 1 1/3 innings and gave up no runs or hits and struck out three. Crawford came in for 2/3 of an inning and gave up no hits or runs and struck out one batter.
