The BEA runner reaches home plate before the Windom pitcher can apply the tag.

The Blue Earth Area Buccaneers softball team played host to the Windom Eagles for a doubleheader on Thursday, May 20.

Unfortunately for the Bucs, the Eagles won both games, taking the first game 18-8 and the second contest 12-2.

It was a rough start for the Bucs in the first game and they found themselves behind 14-1 early in the game.

BEA put together a big fourth inning and scored seven runs to close the gap to 14-8. The Bucs batted around in the inning and McKenna Dutton had two doubles in the inning. Dutton’s second double of the inning cleared the bases for three RBI.

The Bucs had some other chances but could not convert. Meanwhile, Windom added four more runs to gain the 18-8 victory.

Dutton was the hitting star for the Bucs. The senior first baseman also had a single in addition to her two doubles.

Windom 12, BEA 2

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Bucs’ Clara Ziegler hit a first-inning single to plate Kylee Eckmann, who had doubled, with a run in the top of the first inning. However, BEA did not get to enjoy their lead for very long.

Windom scored one run in the bottom of the first, three each in the second and third innings and five more in the bottom of the fourth to give them 12 runs.

BEA scored once in the top of the fifth but the Eagles claimed the victory after five innings.
