USC girls close out regular season

Fall to the Panthers but hold ML/GHEC/T scoreless in 9-0 victory

The final game of the regular season for the United South Central Rebels softball team ended with them losing a close game, 6-3, to New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva at home on Tuesday, May 26.

The Rebels scored a run in the second inning and two more in the fourth to lead 3-0. The Panthers scored four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead 4-3, then scored another in the sixth and one in the seventh to secure the victory.

Rebel ace pitcher Mariah Anderson went all seven innings, gave up the six runs on five hits, walked three batters and struck out nine.

Taylor Schroeder, Hannah Meyer and Izzy O’Rourke had the Rebels’ three hits in the game, all singles.

USC 9, ML/GHEC/T 0

Led by seventh grader Mariah Anderson’s no hit, shutout pitching performance, the United South Central Rebel girls softball team defeated Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman 9-0 on Friday, May 21. The game was played in Wells.

Anderson went all seven innings with a no runs, no hits, and 15 strikeouts outing.

Anderson, along with Kendal Harpestad, Molly Wegner, Izzy O’Rouke and Erica Johannsen all had two hit nights at the plate. One of O’Rouke’s hits was a double and she led the team with three RBI.

Hannah Meyer also had a hit in the game to add to USC’s 11 hit tally. Meyer also had two RBI.

NRHEG 8, USC 1

The USC Rebels fell 8-1 to New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva on Thursday, May 20.

Hannah Meyer pitched all six innings and gave up the eight runs on 10 hits, had five strikeouts and gave up two walks.

The Rebels had five hits in the game. Mariah Anderson was 2 for 3 and got the RBI credit. Meyer, Erica Johannsen and Izzy O’Rourke accounted for the other three hits in the game.
