Three Rebel fielders went after the ball in a game earlier this season. USC plays No. 2 seeded Hayfield next.

The United South Central Rebels softball team had a big game at the right time – in the Section 1A Softball Tournament.

The West Subsection No. 6-seeded Rebels pounded out eight hits, including a homerun, on their way to a 12-3 win over the No. 3 seeded Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons team on Tuesday, June 1.

The Rebels now advanced to face the West No. 2 seeded Hayfield Vikings on Thursday, June 3, at Hayfield. Hayfield had defeated the No. 7-seed team, Lyle-Pacelli, by a score of 16-0 in four innings.

The winner of the USC-Hayfield game will face the winner of the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (No. 1 seed) vs. Blooming Prairie (No. 4 seed) game on June 5 at Austin Todd Park.

USC scored two runs in the first inning, four in the fourth, four more in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Taylor Schroeder led the way for the Rebels at the plate, hitting the home run that accounted for four RBI.

Mariah Anderson was also a team leader at the plate, going 2 for 4 and scoring four runs. Hannah Meyer, Allie Niebuhr, Izzy O’Rourke, Erika Johannsen and Merideth Klingbeil all got one single in the game for the Rebels.

Anderson was also the winning pitcher going all seven innings and allowing the three runs on four hits. She walked five batters, but struck out 17.
