The final sporting event of the 2020-21 school year for Blue Earth Area took place on Friday, June 18, when the 4×100-meter relay team of Riley Anderson, Austin Thielfoldt, Jacob Olson and Jack Norman competed in the State Track Meet.

Those four tracksters, plus alternates Gabe Smith and Gabe Torres, traveled to St. Michael-Albertville High School for the Class A competition.

BEA ended up finishing in 15th place with a time of 45.65.

“The guys were ready to compete. They executed solid handoffs and clocked a consistent time,” BEA track coach Tom Plocker said. “Hats off to the other teams who were just a bit faster today.”

This was the Bucs’ top finish in the 4×100 relay since Jon McGowen, Kevin Renkly, Dennis Paul and Brian Baumann placed fifth in 2004 with a mark of 44.62.

Plocker also noted it was 30 years ago, in 1991, when Yankten Anderson (Riley’s father), Scott Skoken, John Holmseth and Jamie Skogen placed sixth at State with a time of 45.71.

It was the final competition of their high school careers for seniors Anderson, Thielfoldt and Olson.
