Pirates are 7-8 heading into the final weeks of season
The Blue Earth Pirates enter the final six weeks of their regular baseball season with a record of 7-8.
The team suffered a three-game losing streak at the end of May but have now won five of their last eight games to pull within one game of a .500 record.
“TJ Schmidtke is managing the team this year,” Pirates spokesman Lee Hodges said. “We have pretty much the same team back as we had last year and have had a consistant number of guys at every game.”
Garrett Anderson, Hodges, Logan Jahnke, Zachary Schonrock, Ryan Vereide, Brandyn Olsen and Joey Flohrs make up the pitching staff for this year’s squad.
Sharing the catching duties are TJ Stallman, Kaylan Legred and first-year player Ryan Madetzke.
Olsen, Cody Sukalski, Jahnke, Tanner Nawrocki, Kegan O’Brien, Joseph Schavey and Karson Legred are listed on the roster as outfielders.
Around the infield the Pirates have Anderson or Hodges playing first base. Stallman, Koby Nagel and Hunter Bleess have played second base. Schmidtke and Nagel have handled the chores at shortstop and Kane Malo and Schmidtke have each played third base.
“Logan (Jahnke) hit a walk-off triple for us against Austin to give us a big win and some momentum,” Hodges commented. “Then we added a win against Eagle Lake last Saturday.”
The Pirates returned to action on June 27 against the Lake Crystal Lakers in Lake Crystal. Blue Earth will be back at Veterans Field in Blue Earth on Wednesday, June 30, to host the St. Clair Wood Ducks.
