Diamonds gain split in doubleheader
Defeat Blooming Prairie in first game but lose in second contest
The Blue Earth Diamonds 16/18U softball team traveled to Blooming Prairie on July 1 and split a double header. The Diamonds won the first game 4-2. They were trailing the second game 6-5 when the game was called due to a time limit.
The Diamonds found themselves down 1-0 after the opening inning of the first game when Blooming Prairie scored on a passed ball.
Erika Gaydon’s single in the top of the third inning drove in Blue Earth’s first run of the game. Gaydon would later score on a ground out by Taylor Klabunde. The Diamond’s third run came when Berkley Hagedorn walked and stole second base. She scored on a hit off the bat of Lulu Frank.
Klabunde drove in the final run of the game with a line drive to left field which allowed Gaydon to score.
Gaydon went 3-for-3 at the plate and had three of Blue Earth’s eight stolen bases in the game.

Blooming Prairie, which was the visiting team on the scoreboard for the second game, jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Diamonds tallied one run in the bottom of the first when Kylee Eckmann walked and later scored on a ground out by McKenna Dutton.
Blooming Prairie had increased their lead to 6-1 by the time Blue Earth came to bat in the bottom of the third inning. The Diamonds were able to score four runs to close the gap with Blooming Prairie leading 6-5. However, the game was called after the third inning because of a time limit.
