USC Legions stave off elimination

Must win four games in a row to qualify for State Tournament

The United South Central Legions baseball team competed in the Sub-State tournament and picked up an opening game win over Jackson.

Blake Schroeder threw 7 2/3 innings with Ian Crawford getting the final out. Schroeder struck out nine and gave up three hits.

Taybor Connelly, Jackson Spirrizzi and Ian Crawford each had two hits for USC.

USC Legions then took on Blue Earth/Winnebago. The final ended up 14-1 in favor of BE/W.

Taybor Connelly took the loss on the hill, and Ian Crawford along with Andy Krohnberg collected USC’s hits.

In an elimination game against Minneota, USC scored three runs in the top of the seventh on a Taybor Connelly home run to defeat Minneota 7-6.

Ian Crawford picked up the win going 6 1/3 innings with Bryce Sonnek getting the save. USC Legions will take a 9-4 record into the final weekend of the Sub State tournament taking on Springfield in Wabasso on Friday, July 23 at 1 p.m. The final four teams include USC, BE/W, Luverne, and Springfield.

The winner of the game between USC and Springfield played Luverne for the chance to advance to the championship bracket to play BE/W which was played on Saturday, July 24, in Wabasso.
