BEA tennis team off to fast start

Girls go 3-0 at the Glencoe-Silver Lake Invitational Tournament

With several fall sports teams still in practice mode, one team is already out on the competitive trail.

Girls tennis.

The Blue Earth Area girls tennis team traveled north this past week to compete in the Glencoe-Silver Lake Invitational Tournament.

The Bucs took on the host Glencoe-Silver Lake team, as well as Sibley East-Arlington and United South Central.

Each match was just played as one set to eight points. The Buccaneers won all three of their competitions, defeating G-SL 6-1, Sibley East-Arlington 5-2 and USC 7-0.

BEA 6, G-SL 1

Marissa Benz got the Bucs going against G-SL by winning her No. 1 singles match against Anna Sievert, 8-1.

Addison Armstrong took on Leah Nemec at No. 2 singles and won 8-0, while Kylie Rosenau, at No. 3 singles, won 8-1 over Mariah Gutknecht and at No. 4 singles Oliva Dutton defeated Abigail Ziegler, 8-1.

In doubles play, BEA’s Grace Hanson and Allie Lopez lost 8-3 to Ella Malz and Jenna Trippel at No. 1 doubles.

The Buc duo of Ella Survis and Lauren Survis defeated Allyssa Gruber and Bree Ryherd 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Karissa Lopez and Carol Schrader teamed up to win 8-1 over Navaeh Kohout and Gracey Templin at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.

BEA 5, SE-A 2

All four Buccaneer singles players won over Sibley East-Arlington.

Marissa Benz defeated Mallory Sylvester, 8-1, at No. 1 singles. Addison Armstrong won 8-3 over Chloe Reyes at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Kylie Rosenau downed Jenave Mendoza, 8-4, and Olivia Dutton won 8-1 over Jada Henke.

In doubles, Grace Hanson and Allie Lopez of the Bucs lost 8-2 to Jacqueline Wibstad and Holly Otto at No. 1 doubles.

In No. 2 doubles, BEA’s Ella Survis and Lauren Survis lost 8-3 to Jessica Widmer and Shelby Dieball.

The Buccaneer duo of Carol Schrader and Karissa Lopez defeated Morgan Thoele and Morgan Johnson in a close 8-6 battle at No. 3 doubles.

BEA 7, USC 0

The Bucs shut out the Rebels 7-0 at Glencoe.

BEA’s Marissa Benz won 8-0 over Maya Zebro at No. 1 singles. Addison Armstrong won 8-3 over Macy Zebro at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Kylie Rosenau downed Brylee Niebuhrm 8-1. Olivia Dutton won 8-0 over Nia Loonan at No. 4 singles.

Grace Hanson and Allie Lopez teamed up to defeat Elizabeth Romano and Lauren Hansen 8-3 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles it was Ella Survis and Lauren Survis defeating Brakley Yokiel and Addison Mithun, 8-1.

Karissa Lopez and Carol Schader defeated Ava Bangun and Olivia Bangun 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Next up for the Buccaneers was a match on Saturday, Aug. 28 at Albert Lea, and then they will host Belle Plaine on Monday, Aug. 30, with a trip to Pipestone the next day, Tuesday, Aug. 31.
