Bucs demolish Eagles in opener
Team has 394 yards total offense in 59-0 romp over BSC foe
Adam Schavey’s 14-yard run for a touchdown with nine minutes left in the first quarter would be all of the points the Bucs would need on their way to a 59-0 victory over the Windom Area Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 2. Schavey would also run the ball in for a two-point conversion to give BEA an 8-0 lead.
The Maroon and Gold scored once more in the first quarter. Running back Waylen Douglas carried the ball into the end zone from the one yard line with 3:39 showing on the clock. The two-point conversion failed but the Bucs were up 14-0.
BEA scored four times in the second quarter. Schavey’s pass to Ashton Lloyd covered 15 yards for a touchdown with 10:17 remaining in the first half. Douglas ran the ball in for the two-point conversion.
On the Eagles’ next drive Schavey stepped in front of a receiver to intercept the ball and return it 22 yards for another touchdown. Schavey powered his way across the goal line to complete the two point conversion and give the Bucs a 30-0 lead.
BEA’s last two touchdowns of the first half came on a pair of 17-yard runs. The first was by Noah Johnson with 4:42 left in the first half. The next one was by Nick Nelson with 36 seconds to go until halftime. Gabe Smith kicked the ball through the uprights after both scores to put the Bucs on top 44-0 at the half.
Nelson would add a 10-yard touchdown on a run up the middle in the third quarter and the Bucs defense scored on a touchdown on a fumble recovery in the Eagles’ end zone.
Johnson was the leading rusher for BEA with 107 yards on seven carries and one touchdown. Nelson gained 72 yards on nine carries and had two touchdowns. Schavey picked up 65 yards on seven carries while scoring one touchdown.
The Bucs’ defense held the Eagles to just 85 yards of total offense.
