USC has losses to LSH, BP
Despite a couple of the singles contests being close, the United South Central tennis team was unable to get a single win, and fell to the Le Sueur-Henderson Giants 7-0 last Thursday, Sept. 16.
At No. 2 singles, USC’s Macy Zebro had the closest match of the day when she faced Morgan Jones. Zebro won the first set 7-5, but then fell 6-4, 6-4, in the next two sets.
The Rebels’ Kelsie Chapman lost 6-1,6-2, to the Giants’ Chloe Brandt at No. 1 singles. Maya Zebro lost to Darbi Dunning at No. 3 singles, by a 7-5, 6-1, score. And at No. 4 singles, Lauren Hansen was defeated 6-1, 6-0, by Gracie Buesgens.
In doubles action, the Rebel duo of Elizabeth Romano and Maya Hansen lost 6-2, 6-2, to Mia Scharz and Anna Pavlo. At No. 2 doubles, Brooklyn Yokiel and Addison Mithun fell 6-1, 6-0, to Ella Nesbit and Koreyann Straub. And at No. 3 doubles, Olivia Bungum and Brylee Nuebauer fell 6-3, 6-0, to Isabella Holloway and Lauren Krause.
Next up for the Rebels is a home match against Sibley East, on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
Belle Plaine 5, USC 2
The United South Central Rebels girls tennis team took a 5-2 loss on Tuesday, Sept. 14, when they hosted the Belle Plaine Tigers. The Rebels got a good start when Kelsie Chapman took a 7-5, 6-0, decision at No. 1 singles over Lydia Sparby.
USC’s other match point came at No. 3 singles when Lauren Hansen defeated Kayla Streich in a very close match by a score of 7-6, 7-5.
Macy Zebro lost a 6-4, 6-2, match against Emma Driehorst at No. 2 singles and Brylee Neubauer lost in a three-set battle at No. 4 singles, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles competition, USC’s tandem of Maya Zebro and Elizabeth Romano lost a very tight, hard-fought match, 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, against Courtney Eppen and Josie Schmidt.
At No. 2 doubles, Maya Hansen and Addison Mithun fell 6-2, 6-2, to Elissa Moonen and Amilia Messer.
At No. 3 doubles, the Rebels duo of Brooklyn Yokiel and Olivia Bungum lost 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, to Elliana Fahey and Emily Nagel.
