On the stats sheet it looked like the football game between the United South Central Rebels and the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms had been pretty close.

Instead, the Rebels suffered a 33-6 loss to the Blossoms on Friday night, Sept. 17.

The stats show USC had 281 total yards of offense to 287 for Blooming Prairie, 14 first downs to their 15, 78 rushing yards to their 50 and ran 66 plays to their 40.

Even time of possession favored the Rebels, with their 29 minutes to the Blossoms’ 18.

A series of drives ended with no scoring for the Rebels during the game, however. They had drives end with two punts, two fumbles, three turning the ball over on downs and one interception, before they finally were able to score.

That came on a 10-play, 62-yard drive in the third quarter. It culminated with a 15-yard pass play from quarterback Nick Bushlack to receiver Brendan Drescher. The extra point try missed.

That made the score 26-6 at that point in the game. Blooming Prairie had scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and one each in the second and third quarters before the Rebels scored.

The Blossoms would score one more time in the fourth quarter to make the final 33-6. The Rebels’ last three possessions ended with two punts and the clock running out to end the game.

Bushlack was 16 of 28 for 203 yards passing. His longest completion was 49 yards.

Leading receiver was Colton Quade who caught nine passes for 91 yards. Right behind him was Jon Martinez who had four receptions for 87 yards.

Drescher had two receptions for 19 yards including the TD. Nathaniel Clore caught one pass for six yards.

Drescher was also the leading ball carrier, rushing 12 times for 48 yards. Quade had nine totes for 26 yards and Jackson Spirrizzi rushed for 22 yards on five carries.

Next up for the Rebels was a game on Saturday, Sept. 25 when they traveled to Alden-Conger. Results of that game will be in the next issue of the Faribault County Register.

This week USC has its Homecoming game on Friday night, Oct. 1, when they will host Cleveland.
