BEA Bucs compete at Grizzly Invite
If the challenge of running a cross country meet on a hilly course is not enough, the seven teams competing in the Grizzly Pie Invite at Prairie Ridge Golf Course near Janesville also had to deal with sunny, humid conditions with temperatures in the 80s.
The Grizzlies finished first in the boys meet with 31 points. New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva was second with 59.
Angel Martinez rose to the challenge with his best finish of the year for the Blue Earth Area boys. Martinez was the 11th individual boy to cross the finish line. The Bucs took fifth place as a team.
Martinez ran the 5,000 meter course in 20:22. Luca Bucksch was the next BEA runner to finish the course. His time of 24:33 put him in 33rd place. Finishing 34th, just two seconds behind Bucksch, was Brady Lorenz with a time of 24:35.
Aiden Donahue was the next Buc runner to cross the finish line. He finished 42nd with a time of 31:10. Shane Levenhagen was 43rd in 31:18 and Hayden Vereide was 44th in 33:58.
The BEA girls team only had four varsity runners able to compete at the meet so they turned in an incomplete score. NRHEG took first place with 42 points while the host Grizzlies finished second with 63 points.
Calli Ferguson once again set the pace for the BEA girls with a time of 26:17 to finish 13th. Lauren Bleess ran a personal best time of 29.35 to nab 26th place.
Elizabeth Jacobson took 27th place with a time of 30:21 and Hope Goette was 38th in 35:25.
The cross country teams traveled to Fairmont for a meet on Thursday, Oct 7. Look for results of that contest in next week’s edition of the Faribault County Register.
