USC’s Kiera Schultz (15) goes high to spike the ball in a game earlier this season in Wells.

The United South Central volleyball team boosted their Gopher Conference record to 3-4 with a win over Triton on Thursday, Sept. 30.

The Rebels won it 3-0, with set scores of 25-16, 25-20, 25-22.

“This was a really nice conference win for our kids tonight on the road,” coach Joe Kuechenmeister said after the match. “We played the best start to finish match of the year, and that’s proof that we’re connecting the dots better than we have.”

Melany Ehlert led the Rebels with 10 kills, 16 digs and one ace.

“Melany had a monster night for us,” the coach said. “Ten kills was impressive, but her defense was even better as she was everywhere racking up 16 digs.”

Kyllah Curry and Kiera Schultz each had eight kills, while Curry added six digs, two blocks and one ace, and Schultz had 11 digs and three blocks.

Kendall Harpestad added four kills, five digs, two blocks and two assists. Hannah Meyer added one kill while Leah Winch had seven digs. Erika Johannsen had two digs and three aces.

Molly Wegner ended the night with 27 assists, nine digs and five aces.

“We notched 10 aces as a team, which is our most offensive night of the season from behind the service line,” coach Kuechenmeister added. “It’s fun to see the kids take a big step in the right direction, and we are looking forward to getting back out there and continuing to improve.”

The Rebels, who are now 5-9 on the season, played in Nicollet on Saturday, Oct. 2., then hosted Bethlehem Academy on Thursday, Oct. 7.

This week the Rebels play Monday night, Oct. 11, at home against Alden-Conger, Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Blooming Prairie, then hosting Hayfield at home on Thursday, Oct. 14.
