Teams compete at the BSC meet

Will host the Section 2A competition on Thursday at Riverside

The cross country season is winding down and the Blue Earth Area teams competed in the Big South Conference Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Pipestone Country Club.

Temperatures were in the 60s and there was a cool breeze as the runners lined up for the start of their races.

The BEA boys placed seventh in the Small Schools Division of the BSC with 214 points. St. James Area placed first with 56 points while Luverne was close behind with 58 to nab the runner-up spot.

The six BEA boys on the team were led by Angel Martinez who finished the 5,000-meter course in 19:59 to place 41st.

Devin Haase was the next Buc to cross the finish line. His time of 21:03 put him in 46th place.

The remaining four BEA runners all recorded personal-best times.

Luca Bucksch was 47th in 23:11, Seth Mathews was 49th in 24:07, Aiden Donahue was 50th in 24:08 and Marcus Eckles finished in 24:27 to finish 51st.

Luverne grabbed first place for the girls with 22 points, Redwood Valley was second with 56. The Buccaneers placed seventh with 165.

Aubrey Woodwick has continued to run well since coming up from the junior varsity. She finished with a personal-best time of 23:03 to finish 23rd and was the first BEA girl to cross the finish line.

Calli Ferguson also had the fastest time of her career in 23:22 for a 26th place finish.

Sidney Eitzmann was 32nd overall with a time of 23:51. Lola Lundquist finished 42nd in 25:09, Lauren Bleess was 46th in 26:39, Aubrey Hueper was 48th in 26:54 and Elizabeth Jacobson had a time of 27:51 to finish 50th.

BEA will host the boys and girls Section Varsity Meet on Thursday, Oct. 28, at Riverside Town & Country Club, beginning at 4 p.m.
