Kean Hicks is the latest member of the Blue Earth Area football team to be selected to participate in the annual Minnesota High School All-Star football game. He joins nine other Buccaneers who previously played in the contest. This year’s game will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Blue Earth Area senior Kean Hicks has been selected as a member of the South squad in the upcoming Minnesota High School Football Showcase presented by Andersen Windows and Doors.

The 49th Minnesota High School All-Star game kicks off at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Hicks was named to the team as an outside linebacker. The 5-foot-10, 185- pound three-sport athlete has shown his versatility on the football field throughout his career.

In addition to his linebacking duties, he has been a two-year starter as a guard on the offensive line and has also taken on place-kicking duties when needed.

“He is very deserving of this honor,” BEA head coach Randy Kuechenmeister said. “He plays hard every play and is an excellent leader. He is team-oriented and wants the team to do well. Kean has always put the team first.”

Hicks wrestles in the winter and plays baseball in the spring and summer.

Last year’s contest was canceled due to the coronavirus although an unsanctioned game was held at a later time.

Hicks was named to the All-District team last year as a junior when BEA recorded an undefeated 7-0 season and qualified for the State playoffs.

This year, the Bucs finished the season with a record of 8-2.

Hicks is the 10th BEA athlete to be chosen to play in the All-Star game. Those previously selected include Cameron Anderson, Caelan Sanders, Trevor Oppedahl, Bailey Olson, David Franta, Jacob Johnson, Carter Hanson, Logan Becker and Jake Lee.

Current Minnesota Vikings players Adam Thielen (2008) and C.J. Ham (2011) also played in the All-Star game.
