The United South Central Clay Target League team finished the fall season in second place in their conference behind the team from Albert Lea.

“We were neck and neck with Albert Lea all season,” USC clay target coach Michelle Gottberg said. “They squeaked by us in the final week to put us in second place.”

Zale Bushlack was awarded the overall high score for the varsity team while Grace Niebuhr had the high overall female score.

Katelynn Kluender had the high overall junior varsity score and Noah Todd had the high overall novice score.

The most improved athlete award went to Skylar Niebuhr.

“Out of 30 student/athletes who went out this season, we had 21 letter,” Gottberg commented. “To do that meant their scores each week were 19 or higher.”

Bushlack also finished second in the conference and 12th in the state.

Logan Strom finished seventh in the conference and Matt Beyer was 20th. Nathan Mutschler and Hunter Bruckhoff tied for 24th.

The USC girls team had five athletes place in the conference. Grace Niebuhr finished fourth, Madison Klingbeil was ninth, Skylar Niebuhr took 11th, Chloe Lutteke was 14th and Katelynn Kluender finished 16th.

The Clay Target League also held an essay contest with the subject being the second amendment.

USC’s Lutteke won second place and $500 with her essay on why the United States needs the second amendment.
