Rebel wrestlers go 1-2 at quad meet

Defeat Blue Earth Area, but lose to Fairmont and Lake Mills, Iowa

The Maple River/United South Central wrestling team won one match, and lost two, during a quadrangular meet they hosted on Tuesday, Dec. 7, in Mapleton.

All three of their matches were pretty close. MR/USC defeated Blue Earth Area 38-33, lost to Lake Mills, Iowa, 43-34, and lost to Fairmont-Martin County West 37-34.

MR/USC 38, BEA 33

This match came down to the final weight class to decide the winner.

MR/USC got on the scoreboard first with Isaiah Gonzalez 10-0 major decision over BEA’s Timmy Nagel at 106 pounds, and Wyatt Walters pin of Will Weerts at 113.

Kolt Peterson was pinned by BEA’s Cooper Peterson at 120 pounds and the score was 10-6 in favor of MR/USC.

MR/USC’s Waylon Simon was pinned by Carson Sturtz at 126 pounds and Braxton Simon lost 6-3 to BEA’s Caleb Langager at 132, making it 15-10 in favor of BEA.

MR/USC got on a roll with Boden Simon scoring an 11-1 major decision over Blair Lunz at 138 pounds, Byron Getchell pinned Ethan Oppedal at 144 pounds, Konner Harpestad pinned Mateaus Sanchez at 150 pounds and Ethan Evenson scored an 8-3 decision over Parker Meyers at 157, putting MR/USC ahead 29-15.

Noah Ziegler was pinned by BEA’s Kean Hicks in the 165-pound match, but Cooper Ochsendorf defeated Adam Schavey 10-8 at 182. The score became 32-21.

MR/USC’s Collin Van Cleave was pinned by Elijah Sanchez at 190 pounds and Jonathan Hodge was pinned by BEA’s Kale Frank at 215, and the Bucs were ahead by one, 33-32, with one match to go.

In the 285-pound match, MR/USC’s Thane Decker with a pin over BEA’s Zach Benson, earned six points and the 38-33 victory.

Fairmont-MCW 37,

MR/USC 34

It was a close match, but MR/USC could not pull it out, and lost by three points.

Wyatt Walters at 113, pinning Torrey Paplow; Kolt Bullerman at 120 with a 9-5 decision over Berent Kosbab; Braxton Simon at 132, with a forfeit; Boden Simon at 138, with a forfeit; Konner Harpestad at 152, with a 12-4 major decision over Joseph Forsberg; Ethan Evenson at 160, with an 8-3 decision over Aden Welcome; Cooper Ochsendorf at 182, with a pin over Riley Allen.

Lake Mills 43,

MR/USC 34

MR/USC fell behind early and was unable to catch up with Lake Mills, Iowa, in this match.

Taking wins during the match were:

Braxton Simon at 126, pinning Jackson Deyle; Boden Simon at 138, with a 9-0 major decision over Garrett Ham; Konner Harpestad at 152, with a pin of Hayden Brua; Ethan Evenson at 160, with a pin of Beau Kaufman; Cooper Ochsendorf at 182, with a nine-second pin of Nate Womack; Thane Becker at 285, with a win by forfeit.
