The Blue Earth Area gymnastics team celebrated a decisive victory and their highest score this season at a meet against St. James on Monday, Jan. 17.
The Buccaneers slammed the Saints with an overall varsity score of 130.325 to St. James’s 104.0.
The Bucs also snagged the top two all-around placements, with Buccaneer Addison Armstrong tallying a first place all-around score of 33.8 and Haley Kalis securing second with 32.325.
“I was happy to see them hit a season high and finally break the 130 mark,” head coach Rachel Cole said.
Cole was particularly pleased with the Buccaneers’s performance on the bars and the beam.
“We had a really good night on bars,” Cole noted. “Our routines were the cleanest I’ve seen.”
Armstrong secured first place with a score of 7.9 on bars. Senior Jazmyn Lunz earned second place with a score of 7.525. Kalis and Buccaneer Annika Ihle tied for third place with a score of 7.45 and Tailor Douglas earned a 7.25.
The girls also performed well on beam.
“We only counted three falls,” Cole shared. “One of them was actually a spot, so overall, we only had two falls, which is something for us to be excited about.”
Lunz secured first place on beam with a score of 8.25. Meanwhile, Lauren Survis placed second with an 8.15 score. Armstrong earned the third place slot, while Kalis’s 7.375 score snagged her fourth place. Douglas finished with a score of 6.75.
Kalis earned the top vault slot, finishing in first place with her score of 8.9. Armstrong was close behind her with an 8.85, securing second place. Douglas secured third place with her 8.65 score, Ihle’s score of 8.5 earned her fourth place, and Adrianna Reddick finished the event with an 8.45 score.
Finally, Armstrong swept the floor event with a first-place score of 9.1. Kalis earned second place with an 8.6 score. Lunz’s 8.0 score landed her in third place, and Ihle scored 7.675, securing the fourth place slot. Reddick finished with a score of 7.45.
“I’m really hoping to get some of our injured girls back in our lineup within the next week so we can finish out the season strong,” Cole concluded.
The Buccaneer gymnasts faced Windom on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. The results of the meet will be shared in next week’s edition of The Faribault County Register.
