Girls drop two games, lose to the Eagles and Saints

The Blue Earth Area girls basketball team was buried by an avalanche of 3-pointers by the Maple River Eagles when the two teams met on Mon. Jan. 17.
Maple River made seven of the first 3-pointers they attempted on their way to a 64-34 triumph over the Bucs.
“It is hard to recover when a team comes out and shoots the ball like Maple River did,” BEA head coach Chris Voss said.
Maddie Schiltz was once again the leading scorer for the Bucs.
Schiltz muscled her way for 14 points while battling the Eagles’ defense in the paint.
Lola Lundquist tallied eight points for BEA while Kate Armon, Erika Gaydon and Clara Ziegler, each finished with four points.
The Bucs had a cold night shooting from outside of the arc where they made zero of their 12 long-range shots.

The Saints made over 50 percent of their shots from inside of the arc to down the Bucs 51-33 on Thursday, Jan. 13.
St. James took a 19-10 lead into the locker room at halftime against the host Bucs and then outscored BEA 32-23 in the second half to go home with the victory.
BEA was 6-for-33 (18.2 percent) on their two-point attempts and 5-for-14 (35.7 percent) on their shots from outside of the arc.
Lola Lundquist and Kate Armon each scored eight points for the Bucs. Erika Gaydon had six points and Maddie Schiltz and Sophie Keister each finished with five.
Schilts and Keister each finished with six rebounds and Armon and Schiltz each had three assists.
