Maple River/USC goes 2-1 at Blaine
Wrestlers defeat Kenyon-Wanamingo and LA/RP in triangular meet

Blaine Duals
The Maple River/United South Central wrestling team traveled to the Twin Cities area to participate in the Blaine Duals on Saturday, Feb. 5, and won two of their three matches.
They defeated Elk River 45-25 and Eagan 69-6, but lost 42-28 to Owatonna.
MR/USC 45, Elk River 25
MR/USC lost the first two matches by falls and fell behind 12-0. Wyatt Walters lost by a fall at 106, as did Kolt Bullerman at 113.
At 120 pounds Braxton Simon won by a 4-2 decision, but Ethan Elvebak lost a 21-5 technical fall at 113.
At 132 pounds Boden Simon won by a fall and Byron Getchell won with a 7-4 decision. Ethan Evenson also won by a fall at 145, as did Konner Harpestad at 152.
Noah Ziegler lost a 7-0 decision at 160 pounds, but Cooper Ochsendorf won by a fall at 170 and Laken Ivie won by forfeit at 182.
MR/USC had to forfeit at 195 pounds, but Thayne Decker won a 7-2 decision at 220 and Colten Berkner pinned his opponent at 285.
MR/USC 69, Eagan 6
The Maple River/United South Central team lost just one match when they faced Eagan, and that was by a forfeit at 195 pounds.
Wyatt Walters won by a fall at 106 pounds, Kolt Bullerman won by a fall at 113 and at 120, Braxton Simon won a 7-5 decision.
Ethan Elvebak won by a fall at 126 pounds, Boden Simon won by a forfeit at 132 and Byron Getchell took a 4-2 decision at 138.
Ethan Evenson had a 12-2 major decision at 145 pounds, Konner Harpestad won by a fall at 152 and at 160 Cooper Ochsendorf also won by a fall.
At 170 pounds Noah Ziegler won by a fall, Laken Ivie scored a 21-6 technical fall at 182, Thayne Decker won by a fall at 220 and so did Colten Berkner at 285.
Owatonna 42,
MR/USC 28
MR/USC had the early lead, 6-0, when Wyatt Walters got a pin at 106 pounds. But Owatonna won the next four matches and never looked back.
MR/USC got wins at 138 pounds when Byron Getchell got a 13-4 major decision which made the score 15-10 in Owatonna’s favor. It became 18-16 when Konnor Harpestad pinned his opponent at 152.
Owatonna won the next two matches by falls and extended their lead to 30-16. MR/USC’s Laken Ivie won by a fall at 182 to cut the lead to 30-22.
Owatonna got a win by forfeit at 195 pounds and Thayne Decker scored a win by a pin at 220, making the score 36-28 in Owatonna’s favor. They won by a pin at 285 to make the final 42-28.
Kenyon-Wanamingo
Triangular
The Maple River/United South Central wrestling team won both of their matches in a triangular meet on Thursday, Feb. 3.
MR/USC downed Lewiston-Altura-Rushford-Peterson by a score of 49-21, then defeated the host team Kenyon-Wanamingo in a close battle, 39-30.
MR/USC 39, KW 30
MR/USC took the early lead with a 6-3 decision by Wyatt Walters over Masyn Hanson at 106 pounds, but they fell behind when Kolt Bullerman lost by a fall to Reed Sommer at 113.
MR/USC took a commanding lead when Braxton Simon took a 6-2 decision over Tate Miller at 120 pounds, Ethan Elvebak won 5-3 over Landon Trump at 126, and Boden Simon won by forfeit at 132.
Then the two teams started alternating wins.
Byron Getchell of MR/USC lost 3-0 to Gavin Johnson at 138 pounds. But Ethan Evenson won by a fall over KW’s Austin Avery at 145. MR/USC’s Konnor Harpestad lost a close 4-3 decision to Dillon Bartel at 152, then at 160 Cooper Ochsendorf pinned KW’s Owen Craig.
MR/USC’s Noah Ziegler lost by a fall at 170 pounds to Jaedin Johnson, but Laken Ivie of MR/USC pinned Gage Thompson at 182.
At 195 pounds, Collin Van Cleave of MR/USC lost by a fall to Will Van Epps, but Thayne Decker pinned KW’s Charles Koncur at 220. In the 285 match, Colten Berkner lost by a fall to KW’s Amari Stokes.
MR/USC 49, LA/RP 21
MR/USC lost just four matches – one in the lighter weights and three in the upper weights – on their way to a 49-21 win over Lewiston-Altura/Rushford-Peterson.
MR/USC lost at 113 pounds, 182, 195 and 285.
Wyatt Walters got things started off right at 106 pounds with a 7-2 win. Braxton Simon won by a fall at 120 and Ethan Elvebak took a 12-8 decision at 126. Boden Simon also won by a fall at 132, as did Byron Getchell at 138, Ethan Evenson at 145 and Konnor Harpestad at 152.
At 160 pounds Cooper Ochsendorf won with a 14-3 major decision and Noah Ziegler won with a close 7-6 score at 170. Thayne Decker scored a fall at 220 for MR/USC’s final tally.
