Boys, girls are victorious in first meet of the year

The United South Central boys golf team took first place at a Gopher Conference golf meet on Monday, April 11, at Oak View Golf Course, which they hosted.

The Rebel boys shot a team score of 165 to claim first place. Kenyon-Wanamingo was second with 195, Triton third with a 212 tally and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva was fourth with an incomplete score.

The Rebels’ Kadyn Neubauer, a sophomore, shot the low score of the day, an even par 36, to claim medalist honors for the meet.

Right behind Neubauer was another USC sophomore, Blake Bullerman, who carded a 38.

Carter Hart scored a 45 and Luke Pederson a 46 to complete USC’s team score. The Rebels’ Nick Schindler shot a 55 and Levi Hinkley a 56 at the meet.

USC had four out of the top five lowest scores at the meet. Kenyon-Wanamingo’s Soren Kyllo scored a 40 to take third place.

This was the first meet of the year for the Rebels, who now stand at 3-0 for the season.

USC’s next meet was set for Thursday, April 14, again at Oak View, depending on the weather. It was another Gopher Conference meet hosted by USC with Blooming Prairie, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and NRHEG.

Girls results

The United South Central girls golf team won their first Gopher Conference meet, which they hosted and was played at Oak View Golf Course on Monday, April 11.

The Rebel girls shot a team score of 237, with New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva coming in second at 276 and both Triton and Kenyon-Wanamingo having incomplete scores.

USC freshman Emma Heggen led the Rebels and took medalist honors with a low score of 51.

Seniors Elizabeth Romano and Brooklyn Yokiel took fourth and fifth place, respectively, shooting a 56 and a 57. Grace Niebuhr was in ninth place with a 73 to complete the team’s scoring.

“This was a solid day for their first meet of the season,” Rebels’ coach Cheryl Koestler said.
