Boys third, girls fourth at Maple River

It was another cold day for a track meet when Blue Earth Area traveled to Mapleton to participate in the Maple River Invite on April 19.
“It was breezy, cold, with temps in the 40s,” BEA head coach Tom Plocker said.
On the girls side of the competition, it was Minnesota Valley Lutheran finishing first out of five teams with 124 points. New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva was second with 83, United South Central took third with 66, BEA was fourth with 56 and Maple River was fifth with 24.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Addison Armstrong, Kate Armon, Lauren Bleess and Tailor Douglas finished first with a time of 1:58.30. The same set of girls finished second in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:48.00.
In the 4×100-meter relay, Haley Kalis, Sophie Keister, Bleess and Douglas finished with a time of 58.84 which was good for third place.
Cali Ferguson, Elizabeth Jacobson, Aubrey Hueper and Allison Redepenning ran the 4×800-meter relay in 13:17.16 to finish in fourth place.
Ferguson captured second place in the 3200-meter run. She crossed the finish line in 14:22.0.
It was a fifth place finish for Lauren Survis in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 20.74.
Armstrong’s time of 67.24 was good for first place in the 400-meter dash.
In the field events, Chloe Groe had a third place toss of 30-10 1/2 in the shot put.
Groe finished second in the discus with a throw of 92-8.
Three BEA pole vaulters finished in the top five with Armstrong clearing a height of 8-0 to claim first place. Douglas was fourth and Jazmyn Lunz was fifth with each clearing the bar at 7-0.
Sophie Keister was second in the high jump with a mark of 4-8.
Kalis was fifth in both the long and triple jump. Her mark in the long jump was 12-1 3/4 and she covered 26-4 1/2 in the triple jump.
Boys results
The BEA boys finished in the middle of the pack of the five-team field with 68 points.
Maple River was first with 139, MVL was second with 94, NRHEG was fourth with 68 and USC was fifth with four.
Gage Barker, Jacob Grandgenett, Jack Norman and Gabe Torres took third in the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:40.70.
The 4×100-meter team of Barker, Bruk Sonnicksen, Austin Skaden and Norman placed second in 49.20.
It was also a second-place finish for the 4×400-meter relay team of Aaron Lorenz, Austin Stauffer, Waylen Douglas and Torres who clocked a time of 4:02.30.
In the 800-meter relay, Angel Martinez, Thomas Golly, Blair Lunz and Eli Paz combined their efforts to finish in 11:09.5 which was good for fourth place.
Sonnicksen was fifth in the 100-meter dash in 12.91.
Grandgenett took fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.32.
The Bucs took first, third and fourth in the 400-meter dash. Grandgenett captured the top spot in 58.47. Lorenz was third in 58.97 and Torres was fourth in 59.29.
Torres then showed his talent in the long jump with a leap of 17-11 to finish in second place. Lorenz grabbed third place with a mark of 17-6 3/4.
Skaden was fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 34-10.
Jack Norman was first in the shot put with a toss of 42-4. Luke Norman was third at 39-9 1/2 and Blake Ripley was fourth at 39-3.
Ripley placed second in the discus with a throw of 113-11.
Shane Levenhagen finished fifth in the pole vault. He crossed the bar at 8-0.
Weather permitting, the track teams were in action at USC on Friday, April 22.
