Softball team triumphs over Jays
Team improves record to 2-2 with 15-2 victory over conference rival

Claire Sullivan drove in four runs and the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers clipped the wings of the visiting Waseca Bluejays 15-2 in a Big South Conference contest on Tuesday, April 19.
The Bucs put the Jays in a hole early in the game. After holding Waseca scoreless in the top of the first inning, BEA came to bat and erupted for 10 runs.
Kylie Eckmann, Olivia Dutton and Taylor Klabunde each walked to load the bases.
Sullivan delivered a single to left field to plate Eckmann and Dutton and give the Bucs a 2-0 lead with Klabunde stopping at second base.
After a wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third base, Clara Zieger hit a double to drive in two more runs for a 4-0 lead.
A single by Reagan Machacek drove in Ziegler with the fifth run of the inning.
Berkley Hagedorn came in to run for Machacek and scored the sixth run when Lily Olson hit a line drive double to left field.
Waseca recorded a strike out and Olson advanced to third base on a wild pitch.
Kylie Johnson walked to put runners at the corners.
With Eckmann at the plate the Bucs executed a double-steal with Olson coming home for the seventh run and Johnson taking second.
Eckmann struck out for the second out of the inning.
Dutton hit a line drive to center to score Johnson with run number eight with Dutton taking second on the throw to home plate.
A single by Klabunde moved Dutton to third base. Sullivan singled for her second hit of the inning and Dutton and Klabunde both crossed home plate to give the Bucs a 10-0 lead.
Waseca scored one run in the top of the second before BEA added five more in the home half of the inning to take a 15-1 lead after two complete innings.
The Jays added their final run in their last at bat in the top of the fifth inning.
Four players had multiple hit games in the Bucs’ 15-hit attack. Ziegler and Machacek each had three hits while Sullivan and Olson each collected two hits.
Ziegler had two doubles while Johnson and Olson each had one two-bagger.
In addition to Sullivan driving in four runs, Machacek drove in three, Ziegler and Olson drove in two and Dutton had one.
The win gives BEA a 1-0 record in the BSC and a 2-2 record overall.
