The United South Central Rebel girls softball team pulled out a dramatic win last week, Tuesday, April 26, and it took an extra inning to do it.

The Rebels downed the Medford Tigers 6-2 in eight innings.

USC took the early lead, getting one run in the top of the very first inning.

Medford came back and took the lead in the fourth inning when they scored two runs.

However, the Rebels tied it up at 2-2 by scoring another run in the sixth inning.

Neither team could score in the seventh, so the game went into the eighth inning where USC scored four runs in the top of the inning, and held Medford scoreless in the bottom of the inning, to gain the win.

Mariah Anderson pitched all eight innings for the Rebels, giving up the two runs on five hits, walking five batters and striking out 10.

Sam Swanson led the Rebel batters going 2 for 4 at the plate. Kendal Harpestad, Anderson, Molly Wegner, Hannah Meyer and Erika Johannsen all hit singles, to tally USC’s seven hits.

Anderson’s lone hit was a double. Wegner had two RBI and Merideth Klingbeil and Johannsen each had one.

The game had been originally scheduled for April 14, but had been rescheduled to April 26 due to weather.

The USC girls were scheduled to play again on Thursday, April 28, against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown, weather permitting.

This week they are set for playing Faribault Bethlehem Academy on Monday, May 2, and Blooming Prairie at home on Thursday, May 5.
