Bucs defeat Saints 4-3 in boys tennis
The BEA boys tennis team narrowly defeated St. James in an away match held on Tuesday, May 10.
The 4-3 victory improved the Bucs’ season record to a matching 4-3.
The Saints’ Preston Wegner faced Buc Nick Frundt at No. 1 singles. Frundt took the match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
Vern Johnson brought the Bucs another victory at No. 2 singles, where he was up against Saint Andre Rivera. Johnson defeated Rivera in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.
The Saints scored their sole singles victory at No. 3, when Buc Jamie Johnson faced Brennan Kern of St. James. The match was Kern’s in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
BEA’s Joe Frundt fought hard against Zech Liski to tally a win for BEA at No. 4 singles.
Liski took the first set 6-2, but Frundt flipped the score in his favor in the second set, 6-2. The third set was a close call, but ended in a 6-4 victory for Frundt.
At No. 1 doubles, Devin Haase and Seth Stevermer secured an easy victory for the Bucs against Payton Brown and Vince Brown. The match was theirs in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
BEA’s Brady Lorenz and Jerry Passe were less lucky at No. 2 doubles. They were bested by Saints Adam Rodriguez and Devon Olson in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.
No. 3 doubles also went to the Saints. When BEA’s Seth Mathews and Calvin Farrow faced off against Christian Pinera and Dylan Reid, the St. James duo bested the Bucs 6-1, 6-3.
Next week, BEA has a few matches at their home Putnam Park courts to look forward to.
The Bucs played a home match against Fairmont on Thursday, May 12, weather permitting. They are also slotted to play Pipestone in a home match on Tuesday, May 17.
