Bucs down Tigers 6-4 in softball

The Blue Earth Area softball team pounded out 10 hits on their way to a 6-4 victory over the host Medford Tigers on Saturday, May 14.

BEA jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Kylee Eckmann beat out a bunt to reach first base safely. Olivia Dutton’s ground ball to the shortstop resulted in an error with Eckmann advancing to third base while Dutton was safe at first.

Dutton stole second base before a wild pitch allowed Eckmann to score and Dutton to move to third base.

Medford recorded two outs before Dutton scampered home on a passed ball to put BEA on top 2-0.

The score remained the same until the top of the fourth inning when the Bucs added two more runs to their total.

Reagan Machacek stroked a one-out double to left field and scored when Claire Sullivan followed with her own double to left field.

A single by Kyla Roiger enabled Sullivan to advance to third base. Sullivan scored on a single to right field by Lily Olson and the Bucs had a 4-0 lead.

The Tigers pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the Bucs’ margin to 4-3.

BEA’s Kylee Johnson opened the top of the seventh inning with a single to right field. A bunt single by Eckmann put runners on first and second.

Johnson came home on a single by Dutton with Eckmann stopping at second base.

Taylor Klabunde hit a fly ball to the right fielder for the first out of the inning which allowed Eckmann to tag up and advance to third base.

Eckmann scored on Machacek’s sacrifice fly to center field for BEA’s second run of the inning and a 6-3 lead.

Medford scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 6-4 in favor of the Bucs.

Eckmann went the distance on the mound for BEA. In seven innings, she allowed four runs, one earned, on five hits. She struck out 13 Medford batters and walked one.

Eckmann and Sullivan each had two hits during the game. Sullivan and Machacek each had one double during the game.
